CEMiPoS Collaboration with the Musée d’Ethnographie de Genève (MEG)

On September 24th 2021, the Musée d’Ethnographie de Genève (MEG) is launching  an exhibition on Indigenous Peoples, environment, and climate change, entitled “Environmental Injustice, Indigenous People's Alternatives”. In line with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), the MEG aims to forge supportive relationships of collaboration with Indigenous peoples, exhibiting holdings of their cultural heritage while exposing current issues concerning environmental injustice and Indigenous peoples.

In this regard, from Cemipos we are glad to announce our collaboration with the MEG, together with Ainu elders involved in right struggles and Ainu experts on cultural heritage. Our aim is to provide valuable knowledge on Ainu cultural heritage to contextualize the exhibition’s holdings, and media content to expose Ainu struggles for their rights on lands, territories and natural resources.

We at the Centre for Environmental and Minority Policy Studies do hope to contribute to the establishment of a new relationship of trust between museums and Indigenous peoples, respecting Indigenous peoples’ rights concerning their self-determination and cultural heritage, as established in the UNDRIP.
