CEMiPoS Joins ICCA Consortium

This March, CEMiPoS received a warm welcome to the ICCA Consortium, an international association dedicated to "promoting the appropriate recognition of, and support to, Indigenous Peoples' and Community Conserved Areas and Territories (ICCAs) at local, national, and international levels." They are known for working with grassroots groups through its members, who include Indigenous peoples, community organizations, and civil society groups. Additionally, CEMiPoS Director Hiroshi Maruyama has been invited to join the ICCA Consortium as one of its Honorary Members, who lend their expertise to the consortium.

Like CEMiPoS, the ICCA and its members support the broader vision of "conserving biodiversity and ecological functions, nurturing the sustainable livelihoods and wellbeing of indigenous peoples and local communities, and implementing the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples — including self-determination and the full respect of their cultural diversity and collective and individual rights and responsibilities."  

The ICCA Consortium currently constitutes 189 organizations and 430 honorary members from over 80 countries. CEMiPoS is privileged to be included in this list.
